Dr. Nicholas Depree

Senior Research Engineer Process Control & Operations FEM/CFD Modelling

Nick has 10 years’ experience at the Light Metals Research Centre, working in primary aluminium smelting, and 8 years’ at the Industrial Information and Control Centre, in the dairy and petrochemical industries.

His work with aluminium smelters involves development, trial and rollout of EnPot breakthrough technology. He also works on continuous process improvement, including pot control systems, alumina feeding and sludge prevention, work practice improvement and increasing energy efficiency in smelters in Europe and New Zealand. Technological development also includes CFD modelling, often to improve cell life or flexibility of ageing smelters. Nick also apply his expertise in big data analysis, plant optimisation and real-time prediction of product quality to the dairy industry.
