Pot Operation - improvement and maintenance

Pot-room research and technical support activity requires blending understanding of fundamental science with smelting operational experience. LMRC is actively engaged in the controlled cooling of cells, current efficiency, sidewall ledge behaviour, and environmental protection aspects such as anode effects and emission control.  Recent smelter projects focus on maximising productivity and efficiency of both high amperage and aging cell technologies.   Examples of consulting and on-site support include:

  • Pot start-up for new technology with amperage 350kA and above
  • Optimum bake-out power input and resistor start materials
  • Training on best practices for pot life optimisation
  • Smelter operating practices and operations manual.
  • Troubleshooting pot start-up to eliminate hot pot early operations and premature failures
