New high-tech "Materials Accelerator" to transform New Zealand industry
The University of Auckland has joined with six other institutes; AUT University, GNS Science, Industrial Research Ltd, Massey University, Scion, and Victoria University of Wellington to form the "Materials Accelerator". The intention is to build a national network of materials researchers that will create value for innovative New Zealand companies and transform New Zealand’s manufacturing sector. Through a collaborative model, the programme is to undertake research and development in multi-materials applications, develop new materials combinations, and enable rapid product prototyping of high-value products for export markets. The programme has received nearly ten million dollars of government funding over four years (2009-2013). LMRC is a key part of the network, with Director Professor Mark Taylor appointed Deputy Director of the programme. The Materials Accelerator is based in Tamaki Campus, the University of Auckland.
