The Centre's team includes Professor John Chen, Professor Jim Metson, Associate Professor Margaret Hyland and Professor Mark Taylor, has over two decades of experience in the areas of smelting technology, refining and finishing of light metals, particularly aluminium. They have undertaken research contracts for all spheres of the international industry, including primary aluminium producers on all continents, electrode and refractory manufacturers in Europe and Asia, environmental control companies in Scandinavia and major Australasian companies and government agencies.
The Centre has a wide range of expertise in the following areas:
- Aluminium smelting technology - especially in cell control and design, energy efficiency and environmental technologies.
- Operational Expertise in Aluminium Smelting
- Surface science of light metals - especially Magnesium and Aluminium
- Materials Engineering, including testing and design
- High temperature process engineering and materials
- Light alloy products manufacturing
